The Talented Mr. Ripley

John Gray surprised me. I remember that the posters advertised the film as being about a guy willing to do anything to achieve and maintain a high standard of living. I’ve seen it and interpreted it in a totally different way. For me it was (still is, for that matter) about a guy who has caused an accident, tried to hide it to avoid the consequences, and got caught in a vicious spiral leading to committing always more revolting crimes in order to keep what had already happened a secret. I haven’t read the book, but now I’m told it really is about what the posters were describing.
