Lead by Justin Trudeau, the Liberal Party, initially the underdog, won more seats than the outgoing Conservatives and the New Democrats (et le Bloc Québécois and the Greens) combined, and consequently will become the governing party in Canada.

It’s fine to see a centre party win over both the left and the right for once. In fact, I don’t remember when I’ve last experienced this. My opinion of the Canadians has gone up. The only fly in the ointment is that such posts are already won by people younger than me: Sturgeon, Trudeau . . . before I know it somebody who hardly remembers the fall of the Soviet Empire will be elected somewhere. Time flies ever faster as you grow old . . .
