George and Weedon Grossmith: The Diary of a Nobody

Not bad for killing time. Meant as a comic novel, it did make me smile a few times, although it probably wouldn’t if read again. Jerome Klapka Jerome had a similar sense of humour, but he was better in telling his jokes. All that said, one quotation by the narrator, Charles Pooter, which (as far as I’m concerned) is quite serious:

I always feel people are happier who live a simple unsophisticated life.
