(For some reason, his books are published as by Neil M. Gunn, yet everybody seems to mention him simply as Neil Gunn. But to the book.)
There were some passages I enjoyed, like the first voyage to Stornoway. And I enjoyed reading the occasional sentence which did not feel like natural English and seeing that it was a literal translation from Gaelic. But mostly I could only read a few pages at a time before getting bored.
All in all, I don’t regret having read it, but doubt I would ever want to read it again.
