Johann Lamont’s resignation

Just a week after the independence referendum, Scottish Labour leader Johann Lamont resigned, claiming she had had enough of the UK party treating Scotland like a “branch office”.

In a sense, this is a tacit admission of the open secret that the main reason for the vehemence with which Labour opposed independence was their need of Scottish votes to have a fighting chance against Tories in the next Westminster election.
