Jerome Klapka Jerome: Three Men in a Boat

Or, to give it its full title, Three Men in a Boat (To Say Nothing of the Dog). It has neither the brilliant intellectual humour of Joseph Heller, nor the spate of wordplay of Terry Pratchett, nor the ultra-dry asides of James Hawes. But as a book to read at teatime on a lazy afternoon or in bed before turning off the light and going to sleep it is as good as any.
