Google’s tax return

A few weeks ago Eric Schmidt, the executive chairman of Google, described himself as perplexed by the current debate about how much the company pays the UK taxman. He opined that it’s the politicians’ task to set the rules, and the corporations’ task to follow them.

And he’s damn right too. If Cameron & Co. think Google & Co. pay disgustingly little while keeping the law, it’s the former, not the latter, who’s paid by the other taxpayers to make the law fairer.
