Autumnal night shift

The tree at the end of Northpark Street has already begun turning from green to brown, red and yellow. I had a day off but before half two got an unexpected call from the agency asking me to work the night. Only managed an hour’s nap before going, but although this shift (surprisingly, Ross and Krzysztof came too) was my first night one after more than two years, it didn’t drag on more than usual. Passing The Whisky Bond building on my way back in the morning I was rewarded by seeing the first formation of migrating birds this year and just a moment later an idyllic pale red western sky and a mist over the Canal. Yet when I was lying down to my bed an hour after that it was already a beautiful sunny morning.
