Watson, an artificial intelligence program developed by IBM to answer questions posed in natural language, defeated two of the most successful players in the history of the TV quiz program Jeopardy!, which is based on making out the approprite question to match the answer the contestants are given.
BBC: IBM’s Watson supercomputer crowned Jeopardy king
I noticed this BBC news as by coincidence a friend of mine mentioned the affair in an email thread we had about artifical intelligence with regard to languages. If the article is to be believed, a meaningful answer to the question “Who is Bram Stoker?” can be “William Wilkinson’s “An Account of the Principalities of Wallachia and Moldavia” inspired this author’s most famous novel.”
There are only two possibilities: either the participants of the program have a major problem with language, logic, or both – or I do.
