Scotland’s smallest lighthouse relighted

The lighthouse in North Queensferry has been relighted. Using vegetable oil, rather than whale oil or paraffin (as in the past), it became the only one among the more than two hundred under Northern Lighthouse Board’s care which isn’t automated.

I always thought about lighthouses as buildings large enough to also accommodate their operators, and this kind of supposed hermitage had, has, its appeal to me. Obviously, you couln’t live in this one. On the other hand, it appeals to one’s soft spot for diminutives.
